Please note the following:

On behalf of the federal government, the GRC Tracing Service notifies relatives of information clarifying the fate of the person being searched regarding:

  • Prisoners of war and civilian internees, as well as missing Wehrmacht soldiers and displaced civilians of the Second World War,
  • Children who became separated from their families in connection with the Second World War,
  • Residents of the former Soviet special camps in the former Soviet occupied zone and the former Democratic Republic of Germany (GDR), as well as political prisoners of the former GDR.

The provision of information to relatives and those affected is free of charge in these cases.

All other tracing requests in connection with the Second World War are individually assessed to ascertain whether the GRC Tracing Service is permitted to pass on information and whether this information is possibly subject to charges. In case a service fee will be charged, we will ask you if you agree to it.
