International Day of the Disappeared 2021

On the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared (30 August), the GRC Tracing Service held a press conference to draw attention to the current situation of Afghan refugees and to the situation of families torn apart by the ten-year conflict in Syria. Two Syrian families, whom the GRC Tracing Service has accompanied for many years, were guests at the event. The relatives reported on their flight and the challenges of the family reunification procedure and described the desperate search for their relatives who had been missing for many years. Participating in the GRC Tracing Service press conference were Gerda Hasselfeldt, President of the German Red Cross; Christian Reuter, GRC Secretary General; Dorota Dziwoki, Head of the Tracing Service Head Office in the GRC Headquarters and Martin Schüepp, Regional Director for Europe/Central Asia at the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva (moderator: Dr. Dieter Schütz, GRC press officer).
