Working in the District Office for Disaster Tracing Inquiries

How we work

Data are processed by the District Office for Disaster Tracing Inquiries (KAB) in three ways: by telephone, by personal inquiries directly at the KAB and on a PC using the tracing service software "Xenios".

By telephone:
The KAB adviser takes inquiries from those searching for missing persons via a telephone hotline.

In person at the KAB:
In addition to making contact by telephone, people searching for family members can also attend the KAB in person to have their search inquiry recorded.

Through tracing service software:
The information is also recorded in the tracing service software "Xenios". This then enables a speedy and efficient comparison to be made between the details of those people searching and those people being searched for.

If the search for a person was successful, the volunteers make contact with the family members to provide them with information regarding the whereabouts of the person they are looking for.

Voluntary work in a KAB

Detailed information regarding voluntary work in the KAB can be found on the home page of your GRC district branch. You can also approach the staff member responsible in your Regional Office for Disaster Tracing Inquiries. The latter would be happy to direct you to the appropriate person in the GRC district branch.

The contakt details for the GRC regional branch responsible for you can be found here.

A summary of your tasks as an employee of the KAB is provided by the flyer "Voluntary work with the GRC Tracing Service", which is provided here as a copy for you to browse through.
